Farmer held for illegal STL bookie operation
NAMPICUAN, Nueva Ecija — A 23-year-old farmer pretending to be a Small Town Lottery sales representative and collecting bets for its illegal bookie operation on Thursday was arrested in an anti-illegal gambling operation in this town.
Nueva Ecija police information chief Capt. Franklin D. Sindac said the suspect, a resident of Bgy. Carmen, Anao, Tarlac, was arrested by intelligence operatives in Bgy. West Poblacion at 9 a.m. on Thursday,
Sindac said lawmen caught the suspect collecting bets in the area.
He said that after verification was made with the registered STL company operating in the town, it was discovered that the suspect was not their employee.
Seized from the suspect were bet money amounting to P650, a booklet of betting paper (papelitos), and a ballpen.
Charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 as amended by Republic Act 9287 were filed against the arrested suspect.
