BuCor releases 401 qualified PDLs

THE Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) released a total of 401 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from various prison facilities across the country on Monday.

These PDLs were released for various reasons, including the expiration of their maximum sentence with good conduct time allowance, parole, acquittal, and the expiration of their maximum sentence.

The New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City had the highest number of released PDLs with 163, followed by the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DBBF) with 99, and the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) with 47.

Out of the 163 PDLs released from NBP, 59 were from maximum security, 86 from medium security, 14 from minimum security, and four from the Reception and Diagnostic Center (RDC).

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, BuCor Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Gregorio Catapang Jr., Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) Chief Persida Acosta, and other corrections officials were present during the culminating activity.

The theme of the activity was “Bagong Pag-asa ay Pahalagahan sa Malayang Lipunan ay Isakatuparan.”

BuCor, an attached agency of the Department of Justice (DOJ), is administratively supervised by the DOJ as stipulated by law.

The agency has been releasing qualified inmates to address the issue of overcrowding in prisons.
