BJMP: 30, 726 PDLs to vote in highly-secured polling precincts
A TOTAL of 30,726 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) will vote on Monday, May 9, in highly-secured special polling precints provided by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said over the weekend.
Also, BJMP Spokesperson Col. Xavier Solda said during a Laging Handa press briefing, that a total of 2,683 PDLs will vote off-site.
PDLs who will vote off-site were covered with appropriate court orders allowing them to go out of the jail facility.
Commission on Elections’ Resolution No. 10768 provided that a PDL may vote either at a special polling precint established inside a jail facility or escorted to a regular polling place.
Only PDLs whose names appear in the certified list or posted computerized list by the Comelec may vote.
Each polling place shall accommodate 50 to 100 voters.
Medical personnel shall be assigned at the entrance of all polling place to check the body temperature of PDLs before they are allowed to vote.
PDLs can only cast their votes for candidates in the national positions, namely president, vice president, senators, and party list only.
