ALL airports in Bicol are normal operations, said ranking official of Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said no airport in Bicol has been affected by the eruption by Bulusan Volcano. Operations remain normal based on information relayed by area manager Cynthia Tumamut.

Apolonio said the latest ash emission and phreatic eruption of Mt. Bulusan in Sorsogon has not damaged any airport facility.

The CAAP operates seven airports in the Bicol Region, namely: Bulan Airport, Sorsogon Airport, Daet Airport, Masbate Airport, Naga Airport, Virac Airport, and Bicol International Airport.

“We remain vigilant and alert for the volcano’s next activities. As of now, our airports have been safe from the wrath of Mt. Bulusan’s eruption. Operations in our airports with commercial flights have remained unhampered as well,” Tumanut said.

In the Mt. Bulusan Vocano advisory issued by Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) a phreatic eruption was declared by the Bulusan Network at 3:37 a.m Sunday.

The event lasted 18 minutes based on the seismic record but the eruption pluma was not visible in camera monitors.

The public has been reminded that Alert Level 1 status prevails over Bulusan Volcano, which means that it is currently in an abnormal condition.

Local government units and the public are reminded that entry in the four-kilometer radius Permanently Danger Zone must be strictly prohibited.
