IF the L sign of Leni Robredo’s camp is considered a symbol of defeat, misfortune and failure, most people think differently of the V sign of presidential frontrunner Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr., because it brings victory and peace.

In the exchanges of views on social media, netizens said Robredo’s Laban sign is in complete contrast from the Victory sign of BBM.

According to Philip Matienza of Sampaloc, Manila, Robredo’s ‘Laban’ sign clearly indicates negativism and animosity compared to Marcos’ Victory sign which promotes unity and peace.

On the other hand, the Victory sign in Marcos’ political campaign is a sign of victory and peace.

Ricky Simbulan of Bauan, Batangas said Marcos’ V sign is also a symbol of peace.

To recall, the V sign was previously used by BBM’s late father former President Ferdinand E. Marcos during the heydays of Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL).

It is now also being used by the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) – the official party of the leading presidential candidate.

The L sign, on the other hand, has been popularized by the ‘dilawans’ since the assassination of former Senator Ninoy Aquino, until the Edsa People Power 1 that sent his wife, former President Cory Aquino to power.

When Cory died, this was also the campaign sign used by his son Noynoy Aquino in 2010.

Ninoy, Cory and Noynoy had all passed away but their influence in local politics stays.

During Leni’s campaign, she only changed the political color of the Aquinos from yellow to pink, but all the people who are helping her now are original allies of the Aquinos.

They still use the ‘Laban’ sign because Leni’s name starts with the letter L in addition to the fact that it has been their symbol since 1986.

A sociology professor who requested anonymity said that Robredo’s L sign will do no good because in America, it is a sign of losers, while here in the country it is now a sign of misfortune, failure and defeat in upcoming elections.
