A 27-YEAR old farmer accosted by the police in Bangued, Abra for not wearing a face mask in public found himself in deeper trouble after he yielded an unlicensed firearm when subjected to a routine inspection, Cordillera Police Regional Office director, Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee said on Thursday.

Suspect Jeffrey Bulda, a 27-year old resident of Pidigan, Abra is now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013, the official said.

According to Brig. Gen. Lee, members of the Bangued Municipal Police Station enforcing minimum health safety protocols to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 virus in the province accosted the suspect in Barangay Angad after they saw him without a face mask.

However, the suspect reportedly suddenly pulled out a gun from his bag prompting officers to disarm him.

Recovered from the suspect were a caliber .357 Smith & Wesson revolver without serial numbers with six live ammunition and a bag containing three spent cal. .45 casings, a live .45 ammunition, six 9mm ammos and a cal. .380 bullet.

Lee said the suspect was taken to the Bangued police station for booking and custodial safekeeping. The weapon recovered from his possession was also turned over to the Abra Crime Laboratory for a ballistics examination to find out if it has been used in the commission of crimes in the province.
