Cerdeña, Fernandez to grace TOPS forum

WITH the whole nation celebrating the historic gold medal triumph of weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz in the Tokyo Olympics, the Tabloids OrganIzation in Philippine Sports (TOPS) looks back on similar success stories by two other Olympic heroes in the 112th “Usapang Sports on Air”via Zoom this Thursday.

Arianne Cerdeña, who made history by bagging the gold medal in the demonstration sport of bowling during the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and Stephen Fernandez, who pocketed the bronze in taekwondo in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, will talk about their experiences during the weekly sports program.

Cerdeña, now 59 and living with her family in Los Angeles, will also talk about her enshinement to the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame last July 18.

Fernandez, who represented the country twice in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul and 1992 in Barcelona where he won the bronze medal, will also discuss the inspired performance of the country’s lone taekwondo representative, Kurt Bryan Barbosa.

Last week, 1992 Barcelona Olympics bronze medalist Roel Velasco also appeared in the weekly public service forum and talked about his Olympic experience.

TOPS president Ed Andaya of People’s Tonight is inviting all officers and members and friends in the sports community to join the weekly forum sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and Games and Amusements Board (GAB).

TOPS is composed of editors, columnists, reporters and photographers of the country’s leading national tabloids and friends from different social media groups.

This is the 112th episode of the “Usapang Sports” since its formal launch at the National Press Club in 2018 and its 54th edition since going online due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Veteran sportscaster Ernest Leo Hernandez is the moderator.
