SIXTY-THREE dependents of the same number of Philippine National Police officers who have died in the line of duty are now full scholars of the Bayaning Pulis Foundation which has embarked on a program to provide them free education from pre-school to college, the Journal Group learned yesterday.

“By supporting these young minds, we are all shaping a generation that understands the value of service, the importance of community, and the power of education. Let us continue to stand together in support of these scholarships, fostering a legacy of compassion, resilience, and unity that will endure for generations to come,” foundation chairman Ambassador Benedicto Yuhuico said.

On Saturday, 23 latest beneficiaries of the BFPI’s Educational Grant and Assistance Program were welcomed by the PNP leadership led by PNP Deputy Chief for Administration Lieutenant General Rhodel O. Sermonia, Amb. Yuhuico and other foundation officials led by its president retired Brigadier Gen. Noel A. Baraceros during ceremonies held at the Meridian Innovation Center in Pasay City.

Also present during the occasion were officials of the Center for Police Strategy and Management led by Brig. Gen. Victor V. Arevalo and the PNP Directorate for Personnel and Records Management led by its Deputy Director Brig. Gen. Matthew P. Baccay.

The 23 became the 3rd batch of scholars of the BFPI which was established on September 18, 2022 following the signing of the Foundation’s By-Laws and Articles of Incorporation.

It was formally launched by then PNP chief, now retired Gen. Camilo Pancratius P. Cascolan, then Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Manuel B. Felix and then National Police Commission Commissioner Zenonida Brosas.

The 23 beneficiaries from Metro Manila and its nearby regions attended the event physically while the rest from Visayas and Mindanao were assisted by the PNP officers where their late policemen-fathers and brothers were last assigned prior to their heroic deaths.

“We gather today to reflect upon the significance of scholarships provided to the children of our fallen heroes — those brave men and women who laid down their lives in the line of duty to protect our communities and uphold the values we hold dear,” Yuhuico said.

“ These scholarships are not just financial aid; they represent a profound commitment to the families left behind by our dedicated police officers. When a law enforcement officer makes the ultimate sacrifice, their children are left to grapple with the profound loss of a parent, while also navigating the challenges of pursuing an education,” he added.

On behalf of PNP chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., Lt. Gen. Sermonia expressed their utmost gratitude to the Foundation for taking care and assisting the dependents of fallen and totally disabled PNP heroes.

He also thanked the foundation for extending various assistance to the PNP during the pandemic and other calamities that have hit the country.
