FOUR members of the New People’s Army (NPA) operating in Southern Mindanao on Wednesday surrendered to officials of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 saying they are long tired of their hard life in the mountains and would want to return to the mainstream of the society, the Journal Group learned yesterday.

The four, all identified as members of the Communist Party of the Philippines/NPA Mindanao Regional Committee, turned themselves over to members of the PRO11 Regional Mobile Force, the Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office and the PRO11 Revitalized-Pulis sa Barangay in Sitio Tambo, Bgy. Binikilan in San Luis, Agusan del Sur 10 a.m. Wednesday, said PRO11 director, Brigadier General Filmore B. Escobal.

Escobal said the four surrendered following negotiations with his men led by Major Jimmy Evangelista and PRO11 Deputy Regional Director for Administration, Colonel Edgar Alan O. Okubo, the official supervising the operations of their R-PSB.

One of the four is a 26-year-old female identified only as ‘Ka Asumi,’ said to be an NPA medic who has been in the underground movement since 2013. The woman brought her 17-month-old baby girl when she surrendered.

The three others were identified only as alias ‘Ka Dag-um,’ 46; ‘Ka X4,’ 26; and ‘Ka Botyok,’18, all active members of the NPA Platoon 2 operating in Region 13.

All were subjected to a medical and physical examination shortly after their surrender. “The four will also undergo a custodial debriefing prior to the processing of their E-CLIP application,” said Escobal.

The official told Philippine National Police chief, General Dionardo B. Carlos that the four were the latest NPA regular members to surrender to them in line with their all-out support to the National Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict.
