SAN JOSE CITY – Three oldest living San Josenians were honored and given cash gifts by the city government for “living a full life” here on Friday, August 5, 2022.

The three elders included a 100-year-old lolo and centenarian Pedro Santos from Bgy. Calaocan; Lolo Marcelo Cabanavan, 99, of Bgy. Tayabo; and Lola Virginia Quiba, 99, of Bgy. Sto. Niño 1st.

San Jose City Mayor Mario “Kokoy” Salvador visited their houses to hand over P20,000 to each of them personally. The amount served as the city government’s token to appreciate their various societal contributions.

This annual “gift-giving” to the oldest living San Josenians by the city mayor was part of its 53rd foundation anniversary celebrations as a city on August 10 this year.

Aside from the P20,000 incentive, Salvador said the city government will assist these centenarians in processing their “centenarian gift” worth P100,000 from the national government.

According to Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016, all Filipinos who reach the age of 100, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad, shall be honored with a centenarian gift of P100,000.
