2 triker held for transporting illegally-manufactured cigarettes

JAEN, Nueva Ecija – Two tricycle-riding individuals transporting alleged illegally-manufactured cigarettes on Tuesday night were arrested by the authorities in this town.

Police head Maj. Baltazar Corpuz said suspects Arjay Franco, 22, a driver, and his companion, Marites Mesina, 44, both of Sitio KC1, Bgy. San Francisco, San Antonio were accosted on Manggahan Road, Bgy. Sapang at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Members of the local police and the Counter-Intelligence Units of the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office led by Maj. Gerald Fernandez caught the suspects while transporting eight boxes of alleged counterfeit Two Moon cigarettes in a tricycle.

Case prober Senior MSgt. Rowen Martin said the suspects were immediately arrested after failing to present the necessary documents for the illegal cargo worth about P40,000.

The arrested suspects are now under custody of the NEPPO-Intelligence Office for inquest proceedings at the City Prosecutor’s Office.
