POLICE Regional Office (PRO) 5 director, Brigadier General Jonnel C. Estomo yesterday announced the arrest of two of Bicol region’s most wanted murder suspects.

In a report to Philippine National Police chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar, the PRO5 director identified the two as Amesi Caliwan alias ‘Bobong’ and Clarino Oyon-Oyon.

He said that Caliwan, a 52-year-old resident of Sitio Mangga in Bgy. San Pedro in Cataingan, Masbate, was arrested on the strength of a warrant for murder with no bail recommended by Judge Manuel Sese of the Masbate City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 49 on November 24, 2002.

Members of the Cataingan Municipal Police Station, the Masbate Police Provincial Office and the Regional Intelligence Unit 5 tracked down the suspect in his residence following a tip from an informant.

It turned out that the suspect has been in hiding for nearly 19 years and transferring from one place to another with the help of his relatives and friends.

The suspect is now being held at the Cataingan police jail pending the issuance of an official jail commitment order on him by the court.

On the other hand, Oyon-Oyon, a 42-year-old resident of Bgy. Salvacion in Bacon District, Sorsogon City, was arrested last Friday on the basis of a warrant issued by Judge Maximino Ables of the Sorsogon City RTC Branch 52 on October 16, 2016.

“We have also received information that the suspect was able to hide from the law by living in different areas in Sorsogon with the help of his relatives. However, his days of hiding came to an end after we received a tip from a concerned citizen regarding his presence in their community,” said Estomo.

The suspect was taken to the Sorsogon City police lock-up facility pending his presentation to court, said the Bicol police director.
