CABANATUAN CITY — A 24-year-old woman lost some P420,000 to an alleged Axie Infinity scam in this city.

City police head Lt. Col. Julius Ceazar Manucdoc identified the victim as online seller Anjaneth Tungol, 24, single, of Sampaguita St., Bgy. D.S. Garcia, Cabanatuan City.

Meanwhile, members of the Patrulya ng Bayan arrested suspect Jonathan Tanglao, 24, of Purok Matatag, Bgy. Barrera following Tungol’s complaint.

Tungol told the police that she was duped by Tanglao in the amount of P420,000 after the suspect recruited her to become his agent by procuring his Axie Infinity Team Accounts (AITAS), which is worth P70,000 per team account.

The suspect assured the victim that at least 28 AITAs will be given to 23 persons as her supposed “scholars or players” after she gave to him the initial payment of P15,000 for the installment term of each account from August 14 to August 25.

The total payment allegedly given to the suspect amounted to P420,000.

On August 29, when the suspect again failed to produce the Axie Infinity Team Accounts which he promised, the victim immediately sought police’ help.

Col. Rhoderick Campo, acting provincial police director, said charges for estafa are being readied for filing against the arrested suspect before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
