THE U.S. Department of Commerce, beginning June 6, 2022, is leading a delegation of U.S. business representatives to market destinations across Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, specifically focusing on clean energy.

This marks the first U.S. government trade mission to Asia following last month’s historic launch of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) by President Joseph Biden and other leaders in the region.

IPEF consists of the United States and 13 Indo-Pacific partners.

The Clean EDGE Asia Business Development Mission aims to support and accelerate Asia’s clean energy transition by harnessing the expertise and resources of the U.S. public and private sectors.

Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia Pamela Phan of the International Trade Administration will lead the mission for Commerce.

Also in attendance includes U.S. Trade and Development Agency Director Enoh T. Ebong and representatives of the Export-Import Bank of the United States

“Trade missions are where business, diplomacy, and culture come together,” said Phan.

She said “Addressing the climate crisis requires innovative thinking, strategic partnerships, and decisive actions on both sides of the Pacific. It is an honor to stand alongside these countries, companies, and my government colleagues as we look to leverage the best of what each other has to offer to solve a defining challenge of our time.”

Included in the U.S. delegation were 12 industry-leading organizations across the renewable energy and fuels, energy storage, hydrogen, smart grid, nuclear, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) sub-sectors: Bechtel (Texas), Bloom Energy (California), Cheniere Energy (Texas), Ecoplexus (California), FuelCell Energy (California), Itron (Washington), Marquis Energy Global (Illinois), NuScale Power (Oregon), Sempra Energy (California), U.S. Grains Council (Washington, D.C.), UPC Renewables (Florida), and Westinghouse Electric Company (Pennsylvania).

The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta arranged for mission delegates to meet with 65 individual companies in Indonesia, in addition to other business-to-business matchmaking meetings and bilateral engagements between government officials organized by the International Trade Administration (ITA).

On Monday, June 6, delegates started their mission in Jakarta, Indonesia, followed by Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and Manila, Philippines, ending on June 13.

The ITA and the U.S. Department of Commerce are the premier resources for American companies competing globally.

ITA has more than 2,200 employees assisting U.S. exporters in more than 100 U.S. cities and 75 markets worldwide.
