‘Toughie’ nabbed for high-powered gun, ammo

LAOAG CITY – For harassing his neighbors, a local “toughie” was arrested before dawn Thursday for illegal possession of firearms and grave threats in Barangay Barong, Dingras, Ilocos Norte.

Col. Julius Suriben, Ilocos Norte Police director, said the arrested suspect was 39 years old and a resident of the said barangay.

Three victims were allegedly “harassed” by the suspect, all residents of Bgy. Barong, Dingras.

According to probers, at around 12 a.m. of February 16, a call from a village chairman was received by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Dingras and said that one of his tanod seized a firearm from the suspect.

This has prompted the PNP Personnel of Dingras led by Capt. Norman Pentang responded at the said barangay and was able to arrest the suspect with the assistance of village officials.

The head tanod turned over to the authorities one Luger Interdynamuc Miami Fl. Mod KG9, 9mm Luger close bolt version with serial number, magazine inserted with ten live ammo, and a detachable suppressor.

Investigation disclosed that the victims were walking towards the barangay hall when the suspect, without apparent reason, brought out the said gun and aimed it at the victims.

The victims sought the assistance of barangay officers and tanods, who in turn reported it to the police.

The suspect failed to present any documents or licenses for the weapons, said Suriben.

The suspect underwent a medical examination and was turned over to Dingras Police Station for filing of appropriate charges.

Police said that the suspect tested positive for liquor.

The recovered firearms were submitted to Ilocos Norte Provincial Forensic Unit, INPPO, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, for proper disposition.
