TINGOG Party-list and the Office of the House Speaker’s congressional staff have attended the four-day event of the Department of Health (DoH) on universal healthcare programs from April 25 to 28 in Cebu City.

The event was part of the 2023 Network Enhancement Program (NEP) of the DoH with the participation of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp., other stakeholders and partners from both the executive and legislative branches of the government.

They discussed important issues and updates related to opportunities and priorities towards achieving the goal of universal healthcare.

This program of DOH aims to improve the country’s healthcare system’s infrastructure and services through the enhancement of information and communication technology and facilities of DoH hospitals to develop the delivery of high-quality health services to the public, particularly those living in underserved areas of the country.

One of the key updates presented during the event were the status of several bills in both the House of Representatives and Senate such as the Trans Fat Free Philippines Act, Philippine Center for Disease Control and Prevention Act, Drugs and Medicines Price Regulation Act (Amending Republic Act 9502 (or the Universally Accessible Cheaper and Quality Medicines Act of 2008), Establishment of Specialty Centers, Medical Reserve Corps, and Magna Carta for Barangay Health Workers.

As a suggestion for future initiatives, attendees proposed that a bill be filed and presented to Congress to provide a clearer framework for various project proposals.

They also suggested creating an oversight committee to consult, harmonize, and bring consensus to different mandates of government agencies.

Tingog party-list thereafter conducted a short visit at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center as part of the Network Enhancement Program on April 26, 2023.

Ultimately, Tingog party-list reaffirmed its commitment with DoH to continue providing assistance to its constituents who require support to access healthcare services in line with the goal of the department and as part of the Tingog pledge to execute reliable and genuine public service for Filipinos.
