A FOCUSED Far Eastern University sustained its form coming off a series-saving win the last time out as it clipped University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 25-16, 25-20, 25-17, to secure the remaining championship berth in the V-League Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena yesterday.

“Mas pinag-focus ko sila, mas pinag-usap ko sila para makabalik kami sa gusto naming sistema, para hindi namin magising si Perps. Kasi iba rin trumabaho si Perps,” said interim coach Manolo Refugia after the Lady Tamaraws took the best-of-three semifinals series, 2-1.

FEU will take on NCAA holders College of Saint Benilde in Game 1 on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the same Manila venue.

In the men’s division, La Salle booked the last ticket to the Finals with a 25-17, 25-15, 25-19 sweep of fabled rival Ateneo.

The Green Spikers, who lost the Blue Eagles in the eliminations and the semis opener, won the series, 2-1.

La Salle will play streaking University of Santo Tomas in the championship opener at 4 p.m.

Mitzi Panangin anchored the Lady Tamaraws’ defense as she produced five of the team’s 12 blocks while Chenie Tagaod unleashed a 16-attack point game for a total of 17 points and had seven receptions.

Congo’s Faida Bakanke had two blocks and two service aces to finish with 14 points while Kiesha Bedonia was also huge for FEU with 10 points, including two blocks, and six digs.

The Lady Altas, who pulled off a stunning 25-21, 28-26, 26-24 Game 1 win that ended the Lady Tamaraws’ seven-match winning streak, drew just nine points from Mary Rhose Dapol.

Perpetual will face University of the East for the bronze.
