AFTER a two-year and eight-month hiatus brought by the pandemic, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau returned to the Philippines to promote Taiwan tourism products in Clark and in Manila on October 18 and 20, 2022.

As the epidemic eases, various countries loosen their anti-pandemic policies and gradually open their borders. On 29 September 2022, Taiwan announced that the border will be lifted on 13 October 2022, and home quarantine measures will be waived, allowing international tourists to come to Taiwan for travel.

With the opening of Taiwan’s borders, Taiwan Tourism Bureau invited 5 Taiwanese travel agents to promote Taiwan’s railway and food-themed tourism products to Philippine tourism stakeholders. Furthermore, 3 airlines from Taiwan, including China Airlines, EVA Air and STARLUX Airlines, were invited to explain the latest flight information and actively exchanged views with tourism-related industries in the Philippines. In addition to the product descriptions in the two presentations, the airlines raffled off round-trip tickets between Manila and Taipei during the event.

Mr. Chou Shih-Pi, the Director of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, Kuala Lumpur Office, said that Taiwan’s rich cuisine, diverse attractions and warm people are very attractive to the Filipinos, and the flight between Taiwan and the Philippines only consumes about 2 hours. With the tourist visa-free measures, around 510,000 Filipino tourists visited Taiwan in 2019. Director Chou noted that the Tourism Bureau will use “railway and food” as the theme of tourism promotion this year. Taiwan has a variety of railways and scenery is beautiful along the way. Tourists can plan a train trip to Taiwan to experience the charm of railways in a different style in which Filipinos can have fun taking a train and tasting delicious food.

While international travel gradually resumes, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau will continue its efforts to organize promotional activities and strengthen the promotion of Taiwan’s tourism brands in order to attract both Filipinos and other international tourists to Taiwan.
