Tagaytay mayor withdraws bid for Congress

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite – Mayor Agnes Tolentino of Tagaytay City on Wednesday has withdrawn her certificate of candidacy for congresswoman of the 8th district of Cavite at the Provincial Election Office at the Capitol grounds in Bgy. Luciano, this city.

Tolentino backed out before the November 15 deadline for the withdrawal and substitution of candidates set by the Commission on Elections.

The mayor was replaced by her daughter, Aniel Tolentino, 25, an environmental advocate.

The younger Tolentino submitted her COC at the office of attorney Mitzele Morales-Castro, the new Cavite provincial election supervisor, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Aniel was accompanied by her father Philippine Olympic Committee president and Cavite 8th district Congressman Bambol Tolentino, her mother Mayor Agnes Tolentino, and younger sister and incumbent Tagaytay topnotch councilor and vice gubernatorial aspirant Athena “Tin” Tolentino.

Congressman Tolentino did not disclose the reason for the withdrawal and replacement of candidacy but said: “Ipaubaya muna natin sa new generation to take the seat, same with councilor Athena.”

Aniela, former political affairs assistant III of the 8th congressional district of Cavite, was a graduate of Bachelor of Arts (with honors) in Philosophy and Law at Queens University, Kingston, Canada, and a graduate of Public Relations at the University of Victoria also in Canada.

In General Trias City, three-termer Cavite 6th district Board member Felix “Jango” Grepo filed his CoC for his bid for a seat in the 12-man City Council.

Grepo replaced his younger brother Gary, who withdrew his CoC on Tuesday at the Gen. Trias Comelec Office in Bgy. Bagumbayan.

In Imus City, reelectionist city councilor Hertito Monzon of Bgy. Medicion, also withdrew his CoC for reelection last Tuesday.

“My intention not to run in election 2022 as an incumbent city councilor is to assist our Congressman Alex “AA” Advincula in his next mission for the city of Imus,” councilor Tito Monzon said on his social media post.
