Tagaytay, Cavite uplands back in tourism business

TAGAYTAY CITY, Cavite – With the continued easing of restrictions in the country after two years of strict health protocols, the upland Cavite tourism business is back, with estimated tourist arrivals reaching one million in 2022.

Tagaytay City, together with Silang, Amadeo, Mendez, and Alfonso, are the localities that have tourist destinations and excellent weather conditions even in the summer season.

Tagaytay City is known for the tourist destinations “Palace in the Sky” or “People’s Park in the Sky” in Barangay Dapdap East, Picnic Grove in Barangay Sungay East, and Sky Ranch Theme Park in Barangay Kaybagal South and the delicious dishes here such as Bulalo and crispy fried Tawilis.

While the popular restaurants in Silang town, Cafe Agapita, and Perlas ng Silang in secluded Barangay Pulong Bunga, recorded more than 100,000 tourist arrivals in their restaurants in 2022.

On the data provided by the Cavite Provincial Tourism Office, Tagaytay tourist arrivals in 2019 were 421,718 (pre-pandemic); in 2020 – 75,245 (pandemic); and in 2021 – 534,777 (alert level 1).

In 2021, Alfonso, – 102,473; Mendez – 9,375; and Amadeo – 7,373.

But as of October 2022, Alfonso reached 164,909 tourist arrivals; Mendez at 20,194; Amadeo at 7,855 guests recorded.

Favorite stops for local and foreign tourists are scenic Taal Volcano and Taal Lake on the ridge side and the three most visited tourist spots here, the People’s Park, the newly renovated Picnic Grove, and Sky Ranch.

“Tourists want to eat and experience the good weather of Tagaytay,” Jarryd Bello, Tagaytay City tourism officer, said in an interview with People’s Journal Tonight.

Based on the partial data presented by Tagaytay City Tourism Office, they recorded same-day tourist arrivals in November 2021 at 282,083 and same-day arrivals in November 2022 at 125,204 based on partial data collected by the said office.

Overnight stays in November 2021 were at 33,767 guests, while November 2022 peaked at 38,470.

Some of the destinations popular for tourists were Sonya’s Garden in Barangay Buck Estate, Alfonso, Cavite; Paradizoo in Barangay Maglabe Drive, Mendez Nuñez town; and Cafe Amadeo in Barangay Dagatan, Amadeo town.
