AN inactive employee of a steel company in Caloocan City accused of stealing 200 kilos of metal scraps owned by his employers was arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) on Monday, a report to PNP-CIDG Director Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee said Thursday.

The suspect is now facing criminal charges following a complaint from a company that manufactures steel products for construction purposes.

Members of the CIDG Northern Metro Manila Field Unit arrested the accused inside the company compound in Barangay 165, Caloocan City, around 2:30 p.m. last Monday.

An investigation showed that the suspect, joined by three other men, forcibly entered the plant and threatened duty security guards with firearms. Company representatives sought the help of the nearest CIDG office in arresting the suspects.

The company later confirmed the identities of three other suspects, who are all still being hunted as of press time.

When the CIDG NMMFU operatives arrived in the area, they saw the suspects pushing a metal trolley containing a drum full of copper straps.

The suspects fled on foot after seeing the lawmen prompting a chase that led to the arrest of one of the suspects, who yielded a caliber .38 revolver with three live ammunition.

Also recovered from his possession was the metal drum containing an estimated P25,000 worth of copper straps.

The company said that the suspects are all their former employees who were subjected to administrative actions after they were accused of involvement in pilferage and theft.

The suspects will be facing criminal complaints for robbery with violence against or intimidation of persons and violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013, said Lee.
