SPD’S ‘FRIDAY-WARRANT DAY’ NETS 69 TARGETS

SIXTY-NINE wanted persons were hauled to jail by agents of the Southern Police District as they launched their 1st ‘Friday-Warrant Day’ aimed at accounting for all wanted lawbreakers in the southern part of Metro Manila.

The anti-criminality operations orchestrated by SPD director Brigadier General Mark D. Pespes earned the nod of National Capital Region Police Office director, Major Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. who wanted the project implemented in other parts of the metropolis.

The program requires all 5 SPD stations and other operating units to conduct ‘intelligence-driven operations’ which would lead to the issuance of search warrants against all wanted persons and other criminals living or hiding in the territory of the SPD and serving them every Friday.

“The idea is to recover illegal drugs and firearms and other contraband being kept by lawbreakers and arresting at the same time all wanted persons in our area. We won’t be giving them any good time to sleep,” said Brig. Gen. Pespes.

The official said that from 12:01 a.m. to 12 midnight Friday, all SPD operating units and stations served outstanding warrants of arrest issued by different courts against persons wanted for various criminal offenses in their area.

The day-long operation is in line with the NCRPO’s effort to fully implement the 5-Focused Agenda of Philippine National Police chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. which principally focuses on the conduct of aggressive law enforcement operations.

The SPD director said that during the operation, 10 Top Most Wanted Persons were arrested, three of them by the Las Piñas City Police Station which arrested the 6th, 7th and 9th most wanted; two by the Taguig City Police Station with the 4th and 5th most wanted; the Pasay City Police Station with two arrests including a Chinese national charged with three counts of attempted homicide and tagged as the 6th most wanted in the SPD areal and the Parañaque City Police Station apprehending the 10th most wanted.

Brig. Gen. Pespes said that overall, 20 warrants of arrest were served by his men against Most Wanted Persons last Friday with the Las Piñas and Muntinlupa CPS leading with four operations and four arrests followed by the Pasay, Parañaque and Makati CPS with three operations and three arrests; and the Taguig CPS, the SPD District Special Operations Unit and the District Anti-Carnapping Unit with one operation and one arrest.

The official also said that on the same day, his operatives also served 39 warrants of arrest against Other Wanted Persons in their jurisdiction. The Muntinlupa CPS arrested 10; followed by the Pasay CPS with 9; the Parañaque CPS with seven; the Taguig CPS with five; the Las Piña CPS with three; the Pateros Municipal Police Station with two; and the Makati CPS, the SPD District Mobile Force Battalion and the DSOU with one arrest each.

Brig. Gen. Pespes likewise said that from January 1 to last February 5, his men also accounted for 15 law offenders and seized an estimated P750,000 worth of shabu and 12 assorted illegal firearms.

He said that 10 search warrants for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 were served by his men during the period. Those operations resulted in the arrest of 10 suspects including one alias ‘Taba,’44, who yielded 6.6 grams of shabu worth P44,800; one alias ‘Tulis,’34, who was found in possession of 10 plastic sachets containing the same drug and an improvised handgun;

An alias ‘Eking,’39, who yielded 13 grams of shabu worth P88,400; an alias’ Kets/Ketong,’49, who was found in possession of 23.5 grams of shabu valued at P159,800; an alias ‘Putan,’38, who yielded 9.4 grams of shabu worth P63,920;

One alias ‘Ate,’43, who was found in possession of five grams of shabu worth P34,000 and a cal. .38 revolver with loaded with three bullets; one alias ‘Norman,’32, who yielded around 15 grams of shabu valued at P69,360; an alias ‘Pilay,’42; and a certain ‘Ulo,’36, who were found in possession of four plastic sachets containing 17 grams of shabu worth P115,600.

The period also saw the SPD serving five search warrants for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013.

Last January 29, members of the Muntinlupa CPS also raided the house of a 55-year old tricycle driver identified only as alias ‘Casio’ on the strength of a search warrant for violation of RA 10591 issued by a local court.

The raid resulted in the confiscation of a cal. .38 revolver loaded with six bullets, a cal. .22 revolver, one improvised 12-gauge shotgun loaded with five bullets, a cal. .22 rifle with a magazine containing five bullets and a 9mm gun replica.
