Sex offenders

THE government, through the Bureau of Immigration (BI), needs to come up with more effective measures aimed at preventing the entry of foreign sex offenders into the Philippines.

As well-meaning Filipinos, we cannot overemphasize the importance of addressing the problem, knowing full well that the presence of these foreigners poses a serious risk to Filipinos.

Particularly to our women and children, the usual victims of these “sweet-talking and highly-enterprising” foreign sex offenders.

In a recent statement, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco expressed alarm over the continued attempts of these unscrupulous aliens to enter the country.

And it is heartening to know that concerned government authorities are determined not to lower their guard against these foreigners.

“We are always on the lookout for sex offenders so they won’t be able to come here and victimize our women and children,” Tansingco said.

Tansingco made the assurance following the interception of two foreign sex offenders – an American and a German – at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City.

Last month, the immigration chief issued an alert order against the German, tagging him as allegedly involved in child exploitation.

The BI deserves the support of the general public as it exerts its best efforts to prevent the entry of foreign sex offenders into the country.
