Rookie cop killed in Caloocan ambush

A ROOKIE policeman died in an ambush perpetrated by a lone gunman on board a motorcycle in Caloocan City.

The reported killing of Pat. Jefferson Valencia, 24, resident of Gen. Luna, Zaragoza Nueva Ecija happened at around 7:30 a.m. on Monday.

It was not included in the list of significant accomplishments and incident reports being posted by the Northern Police District Public Information Office (NPD-PIO). However, they received a copy of the report from Caloocan City Police on July 4 at around 10:33 a.m.

Investigation showed that while Pat. Valencia was driving his car and traversing along Clamor Avenue, Bgy. 171, Bagumbong, a lone gunman, wearing a black and red cap, black jacket, black shorts, and about 5’5 in height, passed on the left side of the vehicle and started firing at the driver’s seat.

The victim, who was fatally hit and died on the spot, lost control of the vehicle and rammed his car into an electric post.

After the killing, a lone witness and a resident in the area told police that the suspect fled towards Bankers Village in Bgy. 171.

Elements of the NPD Forensic Unit led by P/Capt. Romar Quilang recovered six empty shells and one live ammunition for a caliber .9mm pistol from the crime scene.

Personnel of Caloocan Police Sub-Station 9 and Investigation and Detective Management Section (IDMS) of North Extension Office immediately conducted a follow-up operation, but they failed to identify and arrest the suspect while the motive behind the killing is yet to be determined.
