Remulla appoints lawyer Mico Clavano as DOJ spox

LAWYER Jose Dominic “Mico” Clavano IV was officially designated Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson by Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.

In Department Order No. 385, Clavano was authorized to make public statements and issue press releases in all matters concerning the DOJ.

The order will take effect immediately and shall remain enforce until revoked.

Clavano graduated from the Ateneo Law School in 2018.

He finished his pre-law also in Ateneo with a degree in Management Economics (2009-2014), minor in Global Politics (2013-2014).

Prior to his appointment as DOJ spokesperson, Clavano worked in the Office of the Solicitor General as Associate Solicitor I from 2018 to 2020 and Associate Solicitor II from 2022 to 2021.

He also held key positions in the Department of Transportation, Anti-Money Laundering Council, and Cebu Port Authority.

His areas of practice include, but not limited to:

Represented the Government in all land registration and related proceedings;

Instituted actions for the reversion to the Government of lands of the public domain and improvements thereon as well as lands held in violation of the Constitution;

Represented the Government in the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals in all criminal proceedings; and Represented the Government in Expropriations proceedings.

One of the significant cases he handled was Andal vs. Andal (G.R. No. 196359. May 11, 2021). This landmark Supreme Court case liberalized the long- standing Molina Doctrine for marriage cases.

It paved the way for the legalization of divorce in the Philippines.

At the AMLC, he handled several large-scale Freeze Order and Civil Forfeiture petitions.
