ABUCAY, Bataan- The public has been advised not to eat ‘tahong ‘ as waters off Bataan have been contaminated with red tide toxin.

“Harvesting, marketing and eating shellfish from the coastal waters of Bataan are now prohibited after its toxicity level has gone below the regulatory limit,” said the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

Based on its local shellfish advisory No.1 issued Saturday, Wilfredo M. Cruz, regional director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource, said that based on the latest laboratory results “the shellfish samples collected from the coastal waters off Bataan are now positive for the paralytic shellfish poison.”

The coastal municipalities affected usually are the towns of Hermosa, Orani, Samal, Abucay, Orion, Limay, Mariveles and Balanga city.
