WITH HIGH HOPES that the economy will bounce back under the incoming administration, no less than Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto lauded President-elect Ferdinand BongBong Marcos Jr.’s economic team after the latter identified his economic team recently.

Recto said the decision of Marcos to choose these people shows seriousness describing the move as a “premium investment grade.”

Marcos announced key appointments to his economic team, emphasizing his incoming administration’s focus on steering the economy out of a slump.

These include Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Gov. Benjamin Diokno as his Finance Secretary and former National Economic and Development Authority Chief Felipe Medalla as BSP Governor.

Marcos also named former UP President Alfredo Pascual as Trade Secretary and Manuel Bonoan, as Chief Executive of San Miguel Tollways Corp., as head of the Department of Public Work and Highways, and Amenah Pangandaman as head of the Department of Budget and Management.

Recto said these people made their names through hard work and dedication.

“Ben Diokno, Arsi Balisacan, Fred Pascual, Mina Pangandaman, and Felipe Medalla are top-notch
professionals whose skills and experience fit the country’s post-COVID reconstruction needs.” Recto was quoted as saying.

“They possess the vision to chart our progress and the virtues of hard work and honesty to grow our economy. Their combined expertise should make us hopeful that the first bill President BBM will send to Congress, the 2023 National Budget, is a feasible battle plan that combats joblessness, food insecurity, manufacturing lethargy, weak health system, and the education crisis.” Recto added.

At the same time, Senator Recto urged the next administration to focus on urgent matters that will help the economic bounce back.

“Another urgent document that must be prepared by the new administration is the country’s Five-Year Medium-Term Economic Plan. There is no better crew to oversee the drafting of this guide out of the economic doldrums inflicted by the pandemic than this A-team.”

“Their selection is proof that insofar as this key segment of the Cabinet is concerned, the president-elect admirably used professional credentials as the sole hiring criteria and never factored in politics in his decision.” Recto stressed. By CAMILLE P. BALAGTAS
