‘Provocative’ neighbor shot dead in La Union

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Irked after being “provoked” by his neighbor, a businessman shot dead his neighbor before dawn Monday in Barangay Poro, City of San Fernando, La Union.

According to the report, police said the victim was 29, single, unemployed, and a resident of Bgy. Poro, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The 64-year-old suspect was a widower, businessman, and a resident of the same barangay in the city here.

The local police said they responded to a reported shooting incident at the said barangay by the head barangay tanod.

Based on the initial report, the victim allegedly went in front of the suspect’s house and knocked on the door, prompting the suspect to go out and open their gate.

The victim allegedly provoked the suspect, and they had a heated argument.

The victim then pushed the suspect, who prompted the latter to draw his pistol, a Glock 23 Gen 4, caliber .40 S&W, and shoot the victim once.

As a result, the victim sustained a lone gunshot wound on his chest and was brought to Bethany Hospital, where he expired at about 1:47 a.m. (January 16) and declared dead by the attending physician.

The suspect also sustained a minor injury and was brought to the hospital for medical treatment.
