FOR the benefit of the country and the Filipino people, President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. ought to pack his Cabinet with highly-dedicated men and women.

This would demonstrate to all, including critics, Bongbong’s determination to fulfill his election campaign promises, including the upliftment of the people’s living standards.

Thus, let’s give Marcos, who is set to assume the top political post of the land on June 30, all the help he needs to be able to hasten the nation’s socio-economic development.

What the incoming Chief Executive from Ilocos Norte should do now, in our view, is to pick the “best” to head the various government departments, offices and agencies.

He has so far named Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio and Benhur Abalos to head the Department of Education (DepEd) and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), respectively.

And reports said that Mr. Marcos has also asked former Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Bienvenido “Benny” Laguesma and ex-labor official Susan Ople to join his Cabinet.

He offered the DOLE portfolio to Laguesma, a close associate of the late Labor Secretary Blas F. Ople, the acknowledged “chief architect” of the Labor Code of the Philippines (LCP).

Ople’s daughter Susan, on the other hand, was asked to head the newly-created Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

With still 42 days before June 30 (Thursday), President-elect Marcos and his trusted lieutenants have enough time to go over the credentials of would-be Cabinet members.

People perceived to be “rotten eggs” should not be allowed to join the Cabinet of President Marcos, who is seen to bring a new era for the more than 110 million Filipinos.
