A PHILIPPINE National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF)-led counter-terror raid in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat on Friday led in the killing of an armed son-bodyguard of a Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF) commander and the capture of another suspect, PNP-SAF director Major General Rudolph Dimas said Saturday.

Killed in Purok Matahimik, Barangay Kenram, Isulan was Khadafi Kamendan, a son of BIFF commander Sukarno Hamdan alias ‘Sheik.’

The son of the BIFF commander was killed when his father resisted arrest when PNP-SAF agents issued a warrant of arrest against him.

The arrested was identified as Bayan Samal Abdul, according to the police.

According to Dimas, commandos belonging to the PNP-SAF’s 4th Special Action Battalion, 11th SAF Battalion and Rapid Deployment Battalion played a vital role in serving a warrant of arrest against the elder Hamdan.

Hamdan is a subject of a warrant of arrest for four counts of attempted murder, multiple attempted murder and for frustrated murder.

The PNP-SAF director said that while closing in on the target’s residence, the SAF troopers were met with heavy gunfire from the occupants of the house, thus prompting them to retaliate.

As a result, Kamendan was shot during the firefight while Abdul was arrested. A caliber 7.62mm M-14 rifle, a magazine loaded with four live ammunition, a 12-gauge shotgun with five bullets and a hand-held radio were recovered from the suspects.

“The successful counterterrorism operation reflects the unwavering commitment of PNP-SAF and its partner agencies to maintain peace and security.
