PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., on Tuesday, said they will go on full before the weekend as part of their effort to ensure peaceful and orderly observance of the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day holidays.

The full alert status means 85% of all police stations across the country will be mobilized to conduct patrol and other peacekeeping duties during the long weekend.

Police will be fully guarding public cemeteries and private memorial parks in Metro Manila and the rest of the country all throughout the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on November 1 and 2, respectively.

As has been practiced in the past, police will accost any person found to be carrying illegal firearms and explosives and other deadly weapons, blades, liquor, drugs, gambling paraphernalia, and karaoke machines and sound system inside cemeteries and memorial parks.

Police assistance centers will also be set up on roads leading to vacation sites, including beaches, resorts, and hotels, as Filipinos are expected to take advantage of the 4-day non-working period.

Similar tight security measures will likewise be imposed on airports, seaports, and other public transport terminals expected to be crowded by thousands of people before the weekend.

“We are making early mobilization and preparations ahead of the traditional All Saints’ Day holiday that will be observed this year with a long weekend leading to November 1st. We will go on full alert status to ensure the availability of police personnel and resources for public safety and security operations for this forthcoming four-day holiday,” Azurin said.

According to the top cop, their general guidance is for all 17 Police Regional Offices and other PNP National Operational Support Units to maintain presence and vigilance in securing the motorists and commuters who are expected to travel to the provinces to be with their loved ones.

Azurin said his men will maintain a high presence at all times along travel routes, transport terminals, public cemeteries, and other places of convergence.

At the same time, he reminded the public to take the necessary precaution when leaving their residences unattended during the long weekend holiday.

Traveling homeowners are encouraged to coordinate with their barangay or neighborhood authorities for special security arrangements.

Aside from security operations for the Undas, the PNP is also looking ahead to the resumption of full in-person classes in private and public schools nationwide, the PNP chief said.

Azurin said they are poised to implement a major security plan in coordination with school officials and local government authorities for this nationwide simultaneous academic activity that is happening for the first time after almost two years due to health restrictions.

“Upon the guidance of national health officials, police will continue to remind the public to observe minimum public health standards in public transportation, indoor environment, and crowded places,” he added.

Azurin said they had not monitored any threats to public safety with the upcoming long break. “So far wala naman, baka meron ka, paki-share,” he jokingly told a television reporter who asked him about the matter.
