AGENTS of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) on Saturday spearheaded a marijuana eradication drive at the boundary of Sugpon, Ilocos Sur and Kibungan, Benguet which led to the uprooting and destruction of an estimated P7.5 million worth of fully-grown cannabis, PNP-DEG director, Brigadier General Narciso D. Domingo said.

In a report to PNP chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the official said that no cultivator was arrested during the operation conducted at the disputed boundary of Barangay Licungan in Sugpon and Sitio Bekes, Bgy. Tacadang in Kibungan.

However, PNP-DEG operatives sprayed the nearly 3,000-square meter marijuana plantation site with herbicides to prevent the growth of the prohibited crops anew.

Brig. Gen. Domingo said the Saturday operation led to the uprooting of some 29,000 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants valued at P7.250 million. All were burned on site after some samples were taken for evidentiary purpose, he added.

The PNP-DEG director said they were assisted by personnel from the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), La Union Police Provincial Office, Sugpon Municipal Police Station and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) during the conduct of the anti-narcotics drive.
