THIRTY-ONE most wanted persons in the country were hauled to jail by the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in a series of anti-criminality operations, PNP-CIDG director Brigadier General Romeo M. Caramat Jr. said yesterday.

The official said the arrests were made during a 24-hour operation last April 10 which also saw the confiscation of nearly P720,000 worth of evidence including firearms.

In a report to PNP chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the PNP-CIDG director said that among those arrested were 18 Most Wanted Persons or MWPs, two of them classified as Regional MWPs; three Provincial MWPS and 3 Municipal MWPs.

The rest were described as Other Wanted Persons.

Among those sent to jail by the CIDG operatives was a teenager tagged as one of Calabarzon region’s most wanted men. The juvenile delinquent is the subject of a non-bailable case for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 issued by Judge Ricuerdo Flores of the Tanauan City Regional Trial Court Branch 6 last March 24.

The 2nd identified as John Francis Badiola was arrested on the basis of a non-bailable warrant of arrest for rape issued by Judge Nathaniel Baldono of the Borongan City RTC Branch 2 in Eastern Samar last March 13.

The 3rd was identified as Charlene Teo, a woman wanted for a non-bailable syndicated estafa case issued by Judge Meldina Dayanghirang of the Davao City RTC Branch 54 on April 12, 2022.

Another was identified as Lixter Tambasola, a man wanted for a non-bailable rape case issued by Judge James Ty of the Manila RTC Branch 4 last March 20.

Brig. Gen. Caramat said that his men also arrested five persons involved in the unlawful destruction of the country’s natural resources and confiscated an estimated P700,000 worth of evidence from the accused in line with their intensified enforcement of the CIDG Oplan: Kalikasan. All have been charged for violation of Presidential Decree 705.

He said that the five were arrested in Barangay Balagtas in Batangas City while in the act of transporting illegally-sewn ‘narra’ flitches. The estimated 2,000 board feet flitches were found atop two pick-ups which were impounded by authorities.

The operation was jointly conducted by agents of the CIDG Batangas Provincial Field Unit, the local police and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office.

One of the five men also yielded some P2,500 worth of dried marijuana leaves and several drug paraphernalia and is now facing charges for violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
