MARINO party-list Rep. Sandro Gonzalez and Cocogen Insurance President Darren de Jesus have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to grant personal accident insurance to Filipino seafarers while they are in the Philippines.

The Marino Insurance policy serves to provide protection to seafarers while in between deployments to ensure that their loved ones are taken care of, even if the worst happens.

“The MARINO Partylist always prioritizes the well-being of our seafarers and their families,” Gonzalez said, “and with the pandemic lasting for more than a year now, I know many of them have come into grips with harsh realities.”

Filipino seafarers, like medical professionals, are at the frontline of the pandemic as they deliver vaccines and other essential goods through various shipping lines across the globe.

“We wish to send you our best regards and our heart-felt thanks to all the things you do for our country,” de Jesus said to Filipino seafarers. “We bring you the added protection that shall be brought by our insurance. The MARINO Party-list and Cocogen guarantee our 100% best service we could provide you.”

This initiative, coming on the heels of MARINO party-list’s push to prioritize seafarers in the government vaccination program, is consistent with the party-list’s policy of minimizing the risks faced by seafarers and their families as they go about their livelihood.

“May all of our mariners rest easy against the tide of worries, especially at this time,” Gonzalez continued. “We are happy to have Cocogen as our partner in this endeavor. This insurance coverage is one manifestation of our commitment for our seafarers’ improved security.”
