THE government hopes to address the country’s worsening homelessness problem.

Of course, we agree with concerned government officials that a housing program, to be successful, needs the help of private partners.

Particularly contractors and developers, according to Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).

President Marcos’ affordable national housing initiative is dubbed the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH) program.

Pag-IBIG Fund, headed by chief executive officer Marilene Acosta, has committed a staggering P250 billion to the housing program.

In fact, the increasing interest of private partners has shifted to high gear the nationwide roll out of the Chief Executive’s project.

Forty housing projects, consisting mostly of high-riuse condominium buildings, are currently underway across the Philippines.

The Pag-IBIG Fund, headed by Marilene Acosta, has disbursed a total of P761 million to contractors in three provinces and one city.

These are the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Bulacan and Ilocos Norte and Bacolod City.

We agree with DHSUD that more private partners are expected to participate in the government’s national housing initiative.
