Perfect record for Magnolia

MAGNOLIA Chicken Timplados brought down NorthPort, 112-74, in the battle between unbeaten teams in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Tyler Bey finished with 28 points on 9-of-15 shooting, eight rebounds and six assists for the Hotshots, who kept their perfect record with three straight victories.

Mark Barroca added 17 points, Paul Lee contributed 16 points, and Ian Sanggalang and Jio Jalalon added 11 points apiece for the Hotshots, who led by as many as 38 points against the Batang Pier.

Magnolia coach Chito Victolero lauded the determination of his players from practice into actual game.

“I’m very proud of my players. They’re so focused and they know we need to play for 48 minutes against this team because we know na this is (going to be) a hard game for us,” said Victolero.

“So the preparation was so intense, the preparation was so focused. So credit to the players, they’re playing very, very well, not only one player but the whole team” added Victolero.

The Hotshots got off to a strong start, establishing a 20-point lead by the end of the first quarter (28-8).

Magnolia even extended the lead to 38 points at 104-66 with 4:55 left in the game.

Arvin Tolentino carried the fight for NorthPort with 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting in 40 minutes.

Tolentino, who earned “Best Player of the Week” honor from the PBA Press Corps, added seven rebounds and two assists.

But NorthPort’s import, Venkatesha Jois, was held to only 16 points, 20 points below his average in NorthPort’s two victories.

Vois had 43 points and 10 rebounds against Terrafirma and 30 points and 21 rebounds against Rain or Shine.

Kent Salado added eight points and five rebounds and Jeff Chan chipped in six points for the Bonnie Tan-mentored Batang Pier, who dropped to 2-1
