TWO more teams– Barangay Ginebra and Magnolia Chicken Timplados — make their PBA Commissioner’s Cup debuts against respective opponents at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Kings and resident import Justine Brownlee take the floor against Rain or Shineand Steve Taylor Jr.in the 5:45 p.m. showdown.

The Kings, the PBA Commissioner’s Cup champions in 2018, will parade Brownlee, old mainstays Japeth Aguilar, Christian Standhardinger, LA Tenorio, Scottie Thompson and Stanley Pringle and new recruits Jamie Malonzo (from NorthPort) and Von Pessumal (from San Miguel Beer).

“Jamie is young, athletic, long and explosive. What’s not to like? He’s a player we can build around over the next several years,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone of the former La Salle player they acquired in exchange for Arvin Tolentino and Prince Caperal.

For Pessumal, Ginebra had to let go of veteran sniper Jeff Chan and Kent Salado to the Batang Pier.

Earlier, a well-rested Magnolia will open its campaign against Terrafirma Dyip t 3 p.m.

The Hotshots, who are hoping to improve their third- place finish in the Philippine Cup last month, will parade Serbian-American Nikola Rakocevic.

Rakocevic will have his hands full against balik-import Lester Prosper, who made his presence felt right on his first game back with 43 points and 25 rebounds in the Dyip’s losing effort.

“Yung import nakasama na namin for the last three weeks so chemistry with him okay naman. Yung mga players naging maganda rin pahinga kasi medyo talagang bugbog noong playoffs,”said Magnolia coach Chito Victolero in an interview posted at the official PBA website..

“Iyon lang kasi inaalalayan ko, timing at chemistry with the import.”

Victolero reminded his players not one to take the Dyip lightly. “I told my players na this is a dangerous game, na it will be rough for us.

“Kung pagbabasehan ‘yung Converge game nila, baka mag-kompiyansa kami. But it’s a different game, a different day. Basta kung ano Magnolia Hotshots basketball iyun ang dapat laruin namin.

Kasi kung mag-o-overconfident kami makakasama sa amin.”
