PAOCC, CIDG launch crackdown vs sale of fake animal food

THE Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) and the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) have joined hands in launching a war against the production and distribution of fake animal feeds, the Journal Group learned.

In coordination with the Department of Agriculture, PAOCC and the PNP-CIDG ast January 23 arrested five suspects involved in the anomaly during an operation in Brgy. Lourdes in Lubao, Pampanga.

The five were arrested during an entrapment aimed at uncovering the people behind the illicit substitution of unadulterated soya bean animal feeds with other substances.

Recovered during the operation were 150 sacks of Bentonite, which were believed to be mixed by the suspects with other chemical substances and passed off as animal feeds.

The five arrested suspects were charged with violation of Republic Act No. 1556 or the Livestock and Poultry Feeds Act.

The PAOCC-CIDG operation triggered another follow-up sting by the Police Regional Office 3 three days later which resulted in the arrest of 11 more persons caught in the act of stealing soy and wheat products.

The US Soybean Export Council reported that the Philippines has been the leading global importer of US soybean meal from 2016 to 2017 until 2020/2021.
