Palawan resident jailed for wildlife trading

A 35-YEAR-OLD resident of Taytay, Palawan on Saturday was arrested by authorities for illegal wildlife trading, officials said.

Albert Dayuha was intercepted at Sitio Mangao in Bgy. Poblacion by members of the 2nd Special Operations Unit of the Philippine National Police Maritime Group, the Taytay Municipal Police Station and the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development while transporting a “Balicon,” an endangered species.

The recovered “Balicon” is set to be sold at P4,000 when intercepted.

The suspect’s tricycle which he used to transport the wildlife species was impounded by the Taytay police.

The suspect will be facing charges for wildlife trading and transporting of wildlife under Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.

MARIG officers under Lt. Col. Rae Charles Enrile and a law enforcement team from the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development led by Rafael Orubia conducted the operation, with the help of the Taytay police following a tip from a concerned citizen. Alfred Dalizon
