Padilla opposes postponement of barangay elections
SENATOR Robinhood “Robin” C. Padilla on Friday stressed he is against the postponement of the barangay elections slated this December, saying he wants to empower the people at the most basic level.
The PDP-Laban (Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan), where Padilla is acting executive vice president, wanted the barangay polls to push through as scheduled.
“Kami talaga sa PDP-Laban, kami talaga ang gusto namin ma-empower talaga, ang yung mga nasa baba,” Padilla said at the hearing of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Amendments and Revision of Codes adding that PDP-Laban would want power to be decentralized because power has been concentrated in the hands of a few.
Under the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) schedule, elections for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials are scheduled for Dec. 5.
