P9M smuggled red onions, carrot nakumpiska sa Valenzuela warehouse
NAKUMPISKA ng mga tauhan ng Bureau of Customs (BOC), katuwang ang Manila International Container Port-Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (MICP-CIIS), ang tinatayang aabot sa P9 milyong halaga ng smuggled agricultural products gaya ng mga red onions, carrots, luya at munggo sa isang bodega sa Brgy. Ugong, Valenzuela City kamakailan.
Ang pinagsanib na puwersa mula sa MICP-CIIS at Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Task Force Aduana ang nanguna sa operasyon sa bodega na pagma-may-ari ng Morehouse Marketing.
Nagprisinta ang mga anti-smuggling operatives ng Letter of Authority (LOA) na pirmado ni Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, noong Biyernes, Oktubre 8, sa mga kinatawan ng bodega at kaagad na sinimulan ang inspeksiyon na nagresulta sa pagkakadiskubre ng may 8,000 sako ng iba’t ibang agricultural products, na karamihan ay mga red onions. Mayroon ring nakitang mga luya at mga munggo sa mga sako.
Ayon kay Customs Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Raniel Ramiro, ang serye ng mga operasyon ay bahagi ng pinaigting na anti-smuggling efforts ng kagawaran.
“This is not a one- or two-time thing. This is a continuous effort from the bureau and the MICP-CIIS. The goal is not to allow even one sack of agri products to enter the country illegally because we cannot saturate the market with these smuggled products. It will have such a huge impact on the economy, on our farmers,” pagtiyak pa ni Ramiro.
Ang naturang operasyon ay isinagawa sa kaparehong linggo kung kailan nakumpiska rin ng grupo ang P50 milyong halaga ng agricultural products, frozen seafood, cosmetic products, at infringed goods.
Susuriin muna umano ng bureau ang mga nakumpiskang produkto para sa imbentaryo bago magpalabas ng Warrants of Seizure and Detention (WSD) alinsunod sa Section 1113 ng Customs Modernization and Tariff Act at mga existing regulations ng Bureau of Plant Industry.
Pinuri naman ni Guerrero ang grupo dahil sa pagpapatupad ng LOA at aktibong pagtugis sa natatanggap nilang intelligence reports.
“These recent successes are only possible because of the hardworking team of the bureau and the MICP-CIIS. These smugglers should already realize by now that we’re never going to stop running after them no matter what. That has always been our goal from the start,” ani Guerrero.
“But more than anything else, what we ultimately want is to secure the borders so that it won’t be possible for any illegal products to enter our local markets,” dagdag pa niya
