OVER P4.5 million worth of shabu and dried marijuana (MJ) leaves were confiscated by Philippine National Police (PNP) agents in separate anti-narcotics operations in the countryside last Saturday, PNP Chief General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. said.

The top cop said that one of the suspects yielded an estimated P2.6 million worth of the so-called “poor man’s cocaine” during a buy-buy-bust operation in Barangay Duljo Fatima in Cebu City conducted by officers from the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) under Brig. Gen. Roque Edgardo DP Vega.

Two others were arrested during an anti-narcotics raid in Kalilangan Caluang in Sulu conducted by members of the Sulu Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), the Sulu Police Provincial Office (PPO), the Regional Intelligence Unit 9, and the PNP Special Action Force (SAF).

Recovered inside the couple’s house were one M-16 magazine, an MK2 grenade, one M67 grenade, seven caliber 7.62 live ammunition, and 12 plastic sachets of shabu valued at P340,000.

On the other hand, three drug suspects were arrested during a sting in San Mateo, Rizal, which led to the recovery of around P1.7 million worth of shabu, said Rizal PPO director, Col. Dominic L. Baccay.

Azurin said that in Lubuagan, Kalinga, local police and Army operatives arrested two suspects during an anti-narcotics operation, which led to the confiscation of 138 dried marijuana bricks and six cannabis leaves in tubular form.

He said that the two were arrested at a checkpoint in Bgy. Dangoy in Lubuagan town.

All arrested suspects are now facing non-bailable charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, said Azurin.
