OFWs told: Get insurance
ALL Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) particularly under Balik Manggagawa Program must be insured before they are deployed abroad.
Thus said Insurance Commissioner Dennis Funa, as countries are demanding again the services of OFWs particularly skilled workers and nurses among others.
“Hindi natin masabi ang mga pagkakataon at panahon ayaw nating may mangyari sa bawat OFW. Hindi natin controlado ang mga bagay bagay. It would be good for every OFW to be insured before they are deployed for their own safety and security,” said Funa.
Funa added that for $30 or $40 or P1,900, an OFW gets insured for $10,000 dollars or P550,000 in case of any emergency.
Funa expressed his gratitude to the insurance provider of OFW Ricardo Adu who died in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia while on duty.
Funa personally turned over the P550,000 insurance claim of the victim to the family.
