NPA rebel yields to PNP-CIDG

PHILIPPINE National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) director, Brigadier General Romeo M. Caramat Jr. on Monday announced the surrender of a New People’s Army (NPA) member in Sultan Kudarat.

The official said that the man identified as Willy de Felix alias ‘Poks,’ a 50-year-old resident of Sitio Machinegun Hill in Barangay Kalibuhan in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat also turned over an Uzi machine pistol with a magazine containing several live ammunition to local CIDG and police officers last Sunday.

Brig. Gen. Caramat said the suspected NPA rebel showed up with his weapon at the barangay hall of Tuka, Bagumbayan. He added that de Felix was reportedly recruited by one Felimon Villegas alias ‘Kumander Yoyo,’ said to be the leader of the NPA’s Platoon Samsun operating under the CPP/NPA Field Southern Mindanao Region’s Guerrilla Front 73 in April 2018.

The man reportedly acted as a close-in bodyguard of Villegas during his active days. The group reportedly operated in the areas of Lake Sebu, South Cotabato and in Sultan Kudarat.

The official said the CIDG Sultan Kudarat Office will help de Felix process his application the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program which provides former insurgents the opportunity to earn a living and return to the mainstream of the society.
