IT was a grueling week for Chery Tiggo to make it to the Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference semifinals.

For coach Kungfu Reyes, the Crossovers’ no-quit attitude helped anchor their last two five-setter wins, which will help them in the long run.

Chery Tiggo outlasted Cignal, 17-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 16-14, last Tuesday and survived also-ran F2 Logistics, 27-25, 11-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-10 on Saturday.

“Ito na yung character na bini-build namin, yung never-say-die attitude. Hanggang sa dulo, lalaban kami. But it’s also about team effort,” said Reyes.

It was the Crossovers’ seventh straight win for an 8-1 overall slate.

After a forgettable eighth place finish in the Invitational Conference, Chery Tiggo is back in the semis, joining Creamline (8-0) and Choco Mucho (8-1).

Another tough week awaits the Crossovers, who will try to snap the Cool Smashers’ perfect run tomorrow before going to Iloilo City on Saturday to face the Flying Titans juggernaut.

Chery Tiggo’s victory also virtually completed the semis cast although Cignal (7-3), still has to hurdle its last prelims opponent, the winless Gerflor side, on Dec. 5 to formalize its entry.

Ranged against the Cargo Movers trying to end their season on a positive note, libero Jen Nierva gave the Crossovers boundless energy to keep them going.

“The pressure was on us since F2 Logistics has nothing to lose. Naniwala lang ako sa mga teammates ko at nakahanda naman kami sa kahit anong ibigay ng F2,” said Nierva, who was all over the court with 27 digs and 21 receptions.

“Talagang pinapahalagahan ko yung bawat minuto at segundo na ibinibigay sa akin ng mga coaches. I always make sure na naibabalik ko ang tiwala na ibinibigay nila sa akin,” she added.

“Nakita ko ngayong PVL parang sabi ko ito yung time na dapat hindi ko lang tignan lang yung sarili ko, pero yung buong team.”
