BRIGADIER General Jonathan A. Cabal on Monday officially took over the leadership of the Philippine National Police Maritime Group.

PNP chief, General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil designated Cabal to head the PNP-MG vice Brig. Romaldo G. Bayting.

“I am acutely aware of the weight of responsibility that comes with this position.

As we look ahead, I am filled with a profound sense of purpose and determination to uphold the noble mission of the Maritime Group to protect and secure our seas, safeguard maritime interests and ensure the safety and well-being of our maritime communities,” said the official.

Cabal said that although they are faced by a myriad of challenges ranging from maritime security threats to environmental concerns, he is confident that their collective effort will make them grow stronger than before.

The official also vowed to use modern technology to enhance their operational capabilities and ensure that the PNP-MG will remain at the forefront of maritime law enforcement and security.

Gen. Marbil designated Brig. Gen. Bayting as the new deputy commander of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao after leading the PNP-MG since January 6, 2023.

The PNP chief also named Major Gen. Edgar Alan O. Okubo as the new PNP Civil Security Group director and Brig. Gen. Eleazar P. Matta as the new PNP Drug Enforcement Group director.

Matta replaced Brig. Gen. Dionisio B. Bartolome, who commanded the PDEG from July 14, 2023.

The PNP chief last week also installed Maj. Gen. Leo M. Francisco as the new PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director vice Maj. Gen. Romeo M. Caramat Jr., who has been named as the new APC-Northern Luzon commander.
