NBI files estafa raps 6 ‘illegal’ recruiters

AUTHORITIES are on the hunt for six suspected illegal recruiters who have allegedly deceived aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) by offering non-existent jobs in Europe.

The National Bureau of Investigation-Anti-Organized and Transnational Crime Division (NBI-AOTCD) filed charges for violation of Republic Act No. 8042 or the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995, and estafa against Maya Sanchez Luague, Ronnie Luague, Alexandria Luague, Ana Marie Sanchez, Jonathan Sanchez, and Victoria Sanchez Amon, are facing charges of illegal recruitment and estafa before the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The complainants claimed that the suspects, who are officers and employees of John McGregor Marineweld Training Inc. located at No. 1697 President Quirino Avenue, Pandacan, Manila, recruited them to work as welders in Slovakia.

Each complainant was promised a salary of 1,800 Euros plus 400 Euros as a meal allowance, totaling approximately Php130,000.00 per month.

The suspects required the complainants to take four short training courses for a fee to shoulder the “processing, line-up, and training fees.”

The suspects collected an aggregate amount of P597,007 from the complainants.
