Crime rate down in Eastern Metro

THE Eastern Police District headed by Brigadier General Wilson C. Asueta has registered a massive reduction in all major crimes in the eastern part of Metro Manila during the first quarter of 2023 compared to the records during the same period in 2022, the Journal Group learned on Sunday.

The feat of the EPD which has jurisdiction over the cities of Pasig, San Juan, Marikina and Mandaluyong earned its felicitations from National Capital Region Police Office director Major Gen. Edgar Alan O. Okubo which has launched a major anti-crime strategy to combat eight focus crimes in the metropolis.

Official NCRPO crime statistics showed that the number of crime incidents in the EPD jurisdiction went down from 239 cases during the first quarter of 2022 to only 204 during the first quarter of the year.

The Average Monthly Crime Rate in the four cities under the EPD jurisdiction also went down to 3.74 during the first three months of 2023 compared to the 3.79 average during the same period in 2022.

The EPD likewise registered the lowest occurrence of shooting incidents in the metropolis as well as more arrests and filing of cases on shoplifting due to its active partnership with shopping malls and different business security providers as well as its effective police response and proactive investigative action.

EPD records showed that it investigated eight cases of murder during the 1st quarter of 2022 compared to the three cases during the same period this year. It also noted two homicide cases during the two comparative periods.

On the other hand, the number of physical injury cases it investigated went down from 27 from January to March 2022 to 17 during the same period this year; 50 rape cases during the first quarter of 2022 to 37 during the first three months of the year; and 37 robbery during the same period in 2022 to only 34 this year.

At the same time, the number of motor vehicle theft went down from nine to two and the number of motorcycle theft from nine to seven during the same comparative periods.

The EPD likewise registered a 98 percent Crime Clearance Efficiency during the same two comparative periods although its 62 percent Crime Solution Efficiency from January to April 2022 rose to a 75 percent CSE during the first quarter of 2023.
