Nartatez lauds men for arresting rape suspect
NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office director Brigadier General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. yesterday commended the officers who captured Eastern Police District’s most wanted person during a manhunt operation in Cavite.
The official said that an ‘intelligence-driven’ operation led to the arrest of Jeffrey Bernarte alias ‘Jepoy,’ 41, who had a non-bailable warrant of arrest for murder issued by Judge Maria Cheryl Cequera of the Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 268.
Brig. Gen. Nartatez said that the accused was apprehended in front of SM Bacoor located on Tirona Highway in Barangay Panapaan, Bacoor City early morning last Monday.
Members of the Eastern Police District’s Mobile Force Battalion and District Intelligence Division under Brig. Gen. Wilson P. Asueta and the Regional Intelligence Unit-NCR of the PNP Intelligence Group headed by Colonel Romeo J. Macapaz arrested the suspect following weeks of surveillance triggered by a tip from a concerned citizen.
The accused is now being held at the Pasig City Police Station’s custodial facility.
Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Nartatez also announced the arrest of three other most wanted persons in Metro Manila during separate manhunt operations last Monday.
