Men armed with guns harass farmer in Ecija

LAUR, Nueva Ecija — A 56-year-old farmer on Sunday was threatened by three gun-wielding men who fired shots at his farm while he was cutting grass.

Police identified the victim as Genaro Garcia, a 56-year-old farmer, of Lot 28, Bgy. San Isidro, this town.

The alleged shooting incident took place while he was tending to his farm at 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Three men, one of them with long firearm, fired several shots, causing him to run away and hide behind the tall grasses in the area.

Garcia said he immediately returned to his farm and found his grass cutter already broken believed perpetrated by the suspects.

Responding cops recovered five empty shells for shotgun and a live bullet for cal.45.

During follow-up investigation, police was able to identify one of the suspects, a 38-year-old farmer from Bgy. Buliran, Cabanatuan City, who was arrested and is now locked up in jail.

Charges for grave threats and malicious mischief are being readied for filing in court against the suspects.
